Meet Zeena Koda.
Born and raised just outside of Newark, New Jersey, Zeena was influenced by the R&B and Hip-Hop sounds she heard in her community, but also found a love of Heavy Metal. This love, matched with the support of her parents who also found their own places within Entertainment respectively, Zeena worked to finance her own dream of singing lead in a rock band. For 11 years she traveled in a van and performed show after show as one of few women in color within the genre.
Her trailblazing opened the way for her to transition into a corporate space, initially by interning in Public Relations pushing Heavy Metal music, before quickly moving up the ranks to a management position with The Fader’s creative firm Cornerstone Agency leading integrated music marketing campaigns for brands like Converse, Pepsi, FOX, Bushmills, and VitaminWater.
At the same time, she developed a media career hosting a daily, nationally syndicated radio show on SiriusXM channel Liquid Metal. Her shining personality and first-hand knowledge of the ins and outs of the music industry gave way to on-camera hosting opportunities with Music Choice, VEVO, The Fader, and FUSE. Zeena also pushed her hustle the max and picked up the pen, becoming a contributing writer to VICE music vertical, Noisey.
In 2015, Zeena dove deeper into the music business, moving to Los Angeles to take lead the relaunch of Motown Records, MotownRecords.com and label Quality Control– responsible for acts like Migos, Lil’ Yachty, and Rich the Kid.
