Last week, Black Alley performed their first major show of 2015 at Silver Spring’s Live Nation stage, The Fillmore.
The welcomed Philadelphia’s Good Girl and hometown vocalist Ari Lennox as their opening acts. DJ Alizay shared the stage with them, scratch and mixing our favorite Hip-Hop tunes as the band rocked out to contemporary covers and debuted 3 new songs. This show was a great demonstration of what DC’s music scene is like, fusing Hip-Hop, Soul, Rock and “Crank.” Black Alley’s percussion section is heavily impacted by Go-Go Bands like Backyard and EU.
I got to catch up with the gang after the show to discuss what type of preparation it took to put on such a production, which artists influence their music most and why they’re interested in inspiring youth to pick up instruments and embrace music too.
