A Foodie Grabs a Bite at Truckeroo DC [PHOTOS]
BobbyPen Foodie here and I hope you love food as much as I do! I dedicate this blog-column to all of my fellow foodies who commit their lives to tasting delicious, scrumptious, awe-inspiring meals at new restaurants, food trucks, and other food places that feed the foodie in you. Did I also mention that being a foodie is never a bad thing? Foodies are a go-to source for restaurant-goers who are in desperate need of feeding their own appetites. As an advanced foodie, I plan to take you on a journey of some of the best places to eat in the nation. Please sit back, relax, and enjoy this review, as I let my taste buds do the talking.
Who doesn’t love a good food truck?
If you haven’t heard of the Truckeroo event in Washington D.C. then you are surely missing out on some great food that comes straight out of a large mobile contraption, circling the neighborhoods, and seeking to trap foodies like you and I with food as their bait. Truckeroo is a monthly showcase of Washington, D.C.’s local food trucks. This event brings together everyone’s favorite food trucks, one Friday each month from April to September. Truckeroo goers sample foods and flavors at this festival, along with live entertainment and games throughout the day. Hopefully, I have tempted your taste buds with this information so far, but there is more to come and it may even leave you breathless.
Maryland is land of the blue crabs and is known for having some of the best crab cakes evaaaaa. I have been searching for the perfect crab cake for years and so far the only ones that stood out to me are located at Jerry’s Seafood in Bowie, Maryland, and Timbuktu in Hanover, Maryland. But Truckeroo may have just saved me an on-going search.
Tasting some Fab Crab
Truckeroo 2016 is located on Half Street in Washington D.C., about a block or two away from The Yards. There were a ton of interesting food trucks that I was anxious to try, such as The Big Cheese, Korean BBQ, DC Empanadas, Cajunator, Fire & Rice, and DC Slices, but my favorite dish at the food truck festival was the crab cake sandwich from The Crab Cab. I became so accustomed to eating crab cakes that are quite bland so my taste buds were not ready for the impeccable lump of crab creation that The Crab Cab has sold to the hundreds of people who attend the Truckeroo 2016 DC.
The Crab Cab’s crab cake sandwich is amazingly crabtastic and the crabmeat is seasoned extremely well. The crab cake is not overly breaded, which is what I love the most about their product, and it comes with hot fries. I don’t mean hot fries as in the chips at your local convenience store, I mean Cajun-style French fries that come with a yellow sauce and leave you feeling some type of way. My taste buds were literally screaming, “Where have you been all of my life?”
Warning: The yellow sauce on the side looks deceiving because it appears to be cheese with diced peppers but when I saw that only a small amount came with my meal, I knew the sauce was going to be good. Why? Because food sources never want to give you too much of a good thing.
The Crab Cab’s crab cake sandwich ranges between $12-$15 and the amount of food they give you is sufficient. Anyways, I am addicted to this crab cake sandwich and I went back to stalk them…I mean grab another crab cake sandwich several times now, while at the food truck festival in D.C. Let me just say that when it comes to good food, I am extremely loyal.
See my ratings below (ratings determined in lick-the-plate format, five plates being the highest) and make sure you visit The Crab Cab at the next Truckeroo event.
