BobbyPen’s 5 Minutes with Comedian Luenell [VIDEO]
This Saturday, June 15, comedienne Luenell co-stared along side DC’s own funny man Red Grant at his “Let Me Live Tour” which kicked off at the Warner Theatre hosted by Mike Brooks.
After the gut-busting, side-splitting laughing, I made my way backstage to snag a couple of words from the performers. Luenell was my first target, but not before giving me a little “test.”
She straight up asked, “How do I know you’re not ratchet?” Taken aback and unsure of the response she was looking for, I responded professionally with the mission this site. If you’ve ever seen her set you know that “ratchet” isn’t anything unfamiliar to her. Her raunchy sense of humor works for her and keeps the crowd hanging on to her every word. She had heard enough within the first few words of my declaration and agreed to talk to me because she liked that I had the balls to approach her in the first place. We clicked instantly.

Luenell became interested in acting at 10 years old while attending plays in the Tollette, Arkansas market where she grew up. 1995 presented her with a series of unexpected happenings with her mother passing away in March and giving birth to her “miracle child” only a few months later. Not long after this, Luenell found herself sentenced to 365 days in jail for a series of indiscretions. Fortunately, she was released after only 4 months. This rude awakening set her back on track to pursue her entertainment chops.
Of course, I told her how much I love her work and how I’ve been following her career since the late 90’s BET Network stand-up series Comic View. Luenell cut me off and reminded me that Comic View has been off the air for 10 years now, then she let me in on a little secret– the series will soon return, she said.
Anyway, I’m sure she’d much rather I remind you of her featured film appearances in roles like “the hooker with a heart of gold” from the 2006 blockbuster “Borat” and in 2012’s “Think Like A Man,” and “Hotel Transylvania” and “Taken 2.” She’s also been seen on TV Shows like “Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “The Middle,” “Stand-Up in Stilletos,” and “Snoop Dogg’s Bad Girls of Comedy” on Showtime.
She is most proud of her two-year tour with comedian Katt Williams for his “Katt Williams: American Hustle” DVD released in 2007. She describes this experience as an uphill progression, starting from traveling by Southwest Airlines to chartered flights, and initially staying at Marriott only to end the tour sleeping at Ritz Carlton locations. She feels blessed to be able to have had such an impact on the entertainment industry and encourages everyone to pursue what it is in their heart, not to follow the dreams someone else has for you.
