Thursday (February 13), Travis Scott’s 3rd Annual Cactus Jack Foundation HBCU Celebrity Softball Classic was a star-studded, action-packed event that delivered big plays, bigger personalities, and an even bigger impact. Held at Daikin Park, home of the Houston Astros, the game was the kickoff to a full weekend celebrating HBCU excellence.

The Stars Showed Up and Showed Out

From the diamond to the turf, Houston’s current sports icons took the field. Jeremy Peña and C.J. Stroud were among the athletes stepping up to the plate, with Stroud making a statement by knocking a home run for Team Tan.

On the entertainment side, Tyla, Travis Scott, Amber Rose, Bun B, Mauricio Dubón, Terrell Owens, and Teyana Taylor were all in the mix, adding to the energy and excitement of the night. A standout moment? Travis Scott himself getting the crowd hyped before the game with his signature “Let’s play ball!”

Exclusive Interviews & Viral Moments

Between innings, I caught up with some of the evening’s high-profile guests. Karen Civil shared insights into her relationship with Teyana Taylor, while Amber Rose opened up about the importance of funding for HBCUs, drawing from her experience on BET’s College Hill: Celebrity Edition.

And, of course, the internet was buzzing with questions about Amber Rose’s take on HBCUs—if you missed that conversation, you’ll want to check out my embedded reel below. 👀

The Game Highlights

The six-inning charity softball game was packed with action.

  • C.J. Stroud smashed a home run, proving his skills go beyond the football field.

  • The energy was electric, with legends like Barry Bonds, Metro Boomin, and Reggie Jackson showing up for the culture.

More Than Just a Game

Beyond the competition, the event was a celebration of Black excellence, education, and community impact. I had the opportunity to meet HBCU students who received scholarships through the Waymon Webster Scholarship Fund, which ensures that seniors at HBCUs can complete their final tuition payments and graduate on time. Seeing Travis Scott honor his grandfather’s legacy with his family by his side was a reminder of the real mission behind the event.

The night also featured the Cactus Jack Social Impact Village, showcasing over 20 community and civic organizations, as well as an incredible lineup of Black-owned businesses and vendors, bringing an added layer of cultural pride to the evening.
