Doug E. Fresh Suggests Education to Ease Racial Tension in America [STREAM]
Last month, I got to catch up with legendary Hip-Hop icon Doug E. Fresh backstage after Raheem DeVaughn’s benefit christmas show.
I asked him a very simple question that caused him to think and offer a suggestion for improved police/ community relations, specifically with young citizens of color.
Doug E. Fresh said:
I would want to have something done where there was some kind of understanding between the youth and the government– the police department and the people that [are] supposed to do the right thing, and give them a better understanding.
I think we should teach them on who we are and how we are and not just judge us by the way that they think we are, and the way that we look ya know? So something in the direction of that.
Something in the direction of educating young men, as well as women, on how to deal with the powers that be, because you have to learn how to deal with these people that do not understand us and they are just waiting for a reason to take your life.
So we have to teach our children how to be more patient, more strategic and more understanding and obviously understand the law so that we can make these people do what’s right.
