Spike Lee showed clips from his new documentary last night at a screening held at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans.

The film If God Is Willing And Da Creek Don’t Rise will premier next week on HBO in two parts beginning Monday, August 23 and Tuesday, August 24. Lee goes back to New Orleans five years since Hurricane Katrina. The piece is a follow-up to 2005’s When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts  exposing how the plans of rebuilding “The Big Easy” have come along in five years, as well as examining how the Saints’ Super Bowl win early this year and the tragic oil spill in the Gulf of  Mexico have impacted those still trying to recover their lives since the disaster.

I look forward to seeing how much progress has been made, if any, and how residents feel now. I’ll also be taking notes on the production and cinematography. (That’s the nerd in me. *shrugs shoulders*)
