Summer is officially here and of course we are enjoying the sun, surf and sand.  Since we take our phones everywhere we go it makes sense that your phone will be in hand at the beach as well, right? You want to have it with you to capture the memories.

Perhaps you aren’t taking the phone into the waves with you, and what about when you’re sitting in the sand under the umbrella?  Or when you want to do it for “The ‘Gram”?

Me– being the techie that I am, my phone is generally always nearby. But like most of us, I can be a little clumsy. I’ve certainly had my share of cinematic phone dropping moments as well.  Like in the movies when life’s in slow motion as you try to catch it, and you can hear the long drawn out “Noooooooo,” of desperation.  Don’t be that guy this summer.

While we are out enjoying all the sun and warm weather at the beach here are a few tips on how to avoid filing a claim with your mobile phone provider because you tried to build a sand castle with your iPhone.

[row][three_fourths]Water isn’t the only thing that can harm your phone while you’re at the beach.  If you drop your phone, or if your precious little toddler decides they want to bury your phone instead of you, you could run into some serious damage. Not to worry. LifeProof cases wonderful to protect your phone from water, sand and falls. If you don’t have one of those try this DIY trick: [/three_fourths][one_fourth]

Wrap your phone in plastic cling wrap. You can still use the touch screen through the plastic.  If your phone already has sand in it, use canned air (or compressed air– the same kind used to clean keyboards) to get the sand out of the nooks and crannies.

We all love the way the sun feels on our skin when we’re relaxing to the sound of the ocean. However, your smartphone or tablet doesn’t. This can cause it to overheat. We have all felt our devices get a little warm while charging them, or we’ve heard of devices exploding due to overheating. So, be careful!

It’s recommended that you not let your tech get a tan while at the beach. Here’s a change to give yourself a break from the digital world. Unplug for a little. According to Apple’s knowledge base, iOS devices should only be used in temperatures between 32 degrees to 95 degrees.

If you have multiple devices (camera, smartphone, tablet, etc ) at the beach try getting a drybag to keep them in to protect them from the elements.[/one_fourth][/row]

Enjoy your vacations and your devices safely. How will you use tech this summer?
