Introducing Apple’s New Music Streaming Service to Rival Spotify
Yesterday, Apple held it’s highly anticipate annual developer’s conference.
In the 3-hour long keynote, Apple announced their long anticipated music streaming service, Apple Music.
We had a feeling this was coming considering Apple purchased Beats back in May of 2014. And with all of the (not-so-good) noise surrounding Tidal, I’d say this venture was right on time.
If you’re like me, I’m sure we’re all thinking, “Another music streaming service?” We already have Pandora, Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Prime and Google Play, so why do we need another?
What’s attractive about Apple’s new service is that it’s well integrated into iOS.
Beats 1, the worldwide radio station that broadcasts 24/7 in over 100 countries is also a pretty cool feature for content creators. You’ll also get music stations put together by DJ’s such as Zane Lowe and others.
And if Drake’s appearance at the keynote presentation yesterday was any indication, I’d say Apple has something else cool up it’s sleeves.
However, I really wish they would’ve brought over Beats “mood” feature, allowing one generate a fitting playlist based on one’s mood.
Apple has also added a social aspect to its new streaming service.
Not only will you get tons of music from your favorite mainstream and indie artists, but they also will have profiles for you to follow.
You’ll get behind the scenes access and the chance to interact with the artists directly. This element isn’t all that new per say, but having it all integrated into one music app is a step in the right direction.
If you’re an artist who’s music is already on iTunes, you’ll be worked into Apple Music, and you can claim your profile here. Just fill out your biography, share updates with your fans and grow your following. You can connect your Apple Music profile to your other social networks as well.
Unfortunately, this service isn’t free. But they are offering a free 3-month trial, allowing you to use Apple Music on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or even a PC.Single membership will be $9.99/month, but like the Beats Music app of old, it will also have a family plan which costs $14.99 for up to six people. I don’t know about you, but the family plan seems like the way to go.
Apple Music launches on June 30, you’ll be able to sign up then. They will also be bringing Apple Music to Android in the fall.
