Jim Jones x PRPS Jeans Collaboration Launch Party at CAPSULE NYC in Harlem

New York Hip-Hop came out Tuesday night (Jan. 21) to celebrate rapper Jim Jones‘ venture into fashion with debut denim collection drop with luxury streetwear brand Prsp Jeans at Harlem clothing boutique CAPSULE NYC.

Dave East, Brooklyn Queen, “Love and Hip-Hop New York’s” newest cast member rapper Jennaske and founding member of The Diplomats Freekey Zekey were among notable attendees to have a first look at the limited release capsule collection. Even Houston rapper and philanthropist Trae tha Truth came through to show support.

A few words from the designer

Jim took the mic to share some insight on the collection, like how he dreamed of designing clothes as a kid and why he selected the featured style of denim wash:

“It was a dope experience to sit down and do some things that I’ve been dreaming about doing since I was a youngster when it comes to getting fly,” he said. “Designing your own clothes.”

Jim also mentioned that his friend in marketing at the elevated jeans company plugged him in.

“Besides the capsule,” he continued, “they gave me the opportunity to continue to do business with them and be creative inside of the Prps building.”

When it comes to the look and vibe of the capsule collection, Jim Jones pulled inspiration from those who inspired his sense of style first.

He said: “I’m excited. It came from the idea– I’m a bit older, so I used to watch all my uncles and stuff get fresh when I was younger. So the two-tone jeans was an 80’s steal.”

Showing respect to his Spanish Harlem roots, Jim Jones added this reflection:

“I stole that from the 80’s watching my pops and uncles get fresh. Two-tone jeans was one of the biggest things you could have coming up so that’s what I did a play on. It’s a Harlem thing. You know in Harlem we like to get jiggy with it. Stay fly. A lil’ drip– nothing wrong with a little drip,” he said through a prideful chuckle.

Aesthetics

The collection features deconstructed details, hot pink accents, distressed wash and a graphic tee featuring the quote “Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else ever cared.” The word “purpose” is also a staple in the collection, as a declaration of a destiny fulfilled.

Bobby Pen caught up with Jim one-on-one during the event and while he was tight-lipped on his relationship with longtime fiancee Chrissy Lampkin, he did talk about new music in 2020.

New Music in 2020; Cam’Ron Joint Album

Since signing with Roc Nation three years ago, he’s been maintaining a great relationship with Jay-Z and Dip Set partner Cam’Ron.

Jim and Cam’Ron will be releasing a collaborative album next month featuring production from Hitmaka a.k.a.. Yung Berg. Fans can also expect a Harlem project, a “saucy” project and his own solo album this year too.

Unlimited signature Dusse cocktails set the tone for the evening, ultimately leading to a dance break from Jim Jones, Freekey Zekey and Dave East.

This is only the first half of the collection released this month. There’s another drop next month. Will you be copping any Jim Jones x Prps gear?
