Kendrick Lamar Awarded “Generational Icon” by California State Senate [VIDEO]
On Monday the California State Senate presented rapper Kendrick Lamar with the Generational Icon Award this weekend for his achievements as a musician and positive contributions to his community.
The 27-year-old Compton native is still a familiar face in his old neighborhood. Apparently he’s donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to support sports, music, the Compton Unified District and after school programs to keep students off the streets and in the classroom.
Mr. Lamar is not only giving voice to a new generation of urban youth, but he is demonstrating what it means to work hard, do well and give back to his community. Senator Isadore Hall III
