No, there’s no need for you to pull those empty liquor bottles off the top of your fridge and shattering them to bits. Shattered glass or glass nails are achieved by using bits of cellophane and cutting them into cool geometrical shapes on the nail.  Inspired by South Korean manicurist Eun Kyung Park, who used the shell of an abalone, a shellfish related to the clam, as inspiration to create these designs.

So if you are like me, you probably don’t have time to fly to South Korea. Luckily, this design can be achieved at home if you own a gel manicure kit. You will need:

  • Nail Lacquer (does not have to be gel)
  • Nail transfer adhesive (not nail glue)
  • Cellophane
  • Tweezers
  • Dotting tool
  • Gel Top Coat
  • Nail Scissors

Step One:

Prep your nails like normal and use any color nail lacquer to get your nails started.

Step Two:

Get your cellophane and nail scissors. Now, cut the cellophane into triangular or square shapes.

Step Three:

Use the nail adhesive and tweezers to stick and apply the cellophane onto your nails. Get creative with the layout.

Step Four:

Use the dotting tool to ensure all the corners of cellophane are properly adhered to the nail lacquer.

Step Five:

Use the gel top coat to encapsulate the cellophane on the nail and ensure longevity with this nail design.
