Tank talks Industry Competition, Career Longevity for Artists and Happy Music [VIDEO]
After a crowd pleasing performance at this month’s WPGC’s For Sisters Only, Tank sat down with me to dish.
We talked casually about everything from how it feels to perform at home for your friends and family, to how hungry and competitive he is even after his sixth album debuted at no. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.
Tank says we get a more uptempo feel from “Stronger,” because he was happy while recording.
That’s a lot different for me because I’ve never made an album in that space. All of my albums are a collage of a bunch of hurt mixed in with some sexual activity.
Tank says he feels blessed to be around as long as he has in this fierce industry, and attributes his longevity to three main factors:
- Being Original– “There is a thing that is Tank…if people wanted it, they had to come get it from me.,” the crooner explains.
- Remaining Competitive– “I’m as hungry today as I was the first day that I got into it.” He says he’s still watching the charts and trying to knock people off.
- God’s Favor — “That’s just what God does. He puts you there and he keeps you.”
He also tells us exactly which artists inspired him and plugs his other business ventures. This man is working!
I’m excited to learn that he’s going on tour at the beginning of 2015, and that TGT will reunite.
