The First Hip-Hop Billionaire | Apple Acquires Beats by Dre for $3.2 Billion
Dr. Dre is (or will soon be) Hip-Hop’s first billionaire!
Here, watch him tell you himself:
Beats Electronics, co-created by Interscope chief Jimmy Lovine and heralded Hip-Hop producer Andre Young (better known as Dr. Dre,) has been acquired by Apple. The Washington Post suggests, the deal comes just in time to up Apples waning cool-factor, due to their lack of major new products and stiff competition from Microsoft, Google and Samsung.
Critics and analysts question whether this acquisition is the best move for Apple, as the expected benefit would be moreso the audio company’s streaming service– which is outperforming Apple’s weak attempt to tap into the market.
Beats Music allows users to simply type a sentence to describe their current mood, and produces “the right music for right now.”
Watching things play out will be exciting for both the music lover and techie in me. I’m team Apple everything, and I had been considering making a switch since some of Apple’s recent updates that allow for more fragile products and limited third-party accessory options. Hopefully, this deal will reignite that spark that attracted millions of users into the iPosse.
Congratulations Dr. Dre! Much success on your next venture 😉
