Visitors to The Fridge enjoyed being walking pieces of art.

The Fridge, DC’s exclusive hip-hop hippie hangout held its final night in the summer series Gaia this Saturday.
The ally front garage-room located in the Eastern Market neighborhood at 516 8th Southeast Washington, DC is a cool place for artists of all sorts to gather and enjoy each other. The space has been home to art exhibits, musical and dance performances, and educational speakers. Various media of art was represented– live music performances, photographers, graphic artists, lighting and fog effects specialists, belly dancers, and DJ’s gathered to entertain and network. Business cards and flyers were passed around like a peace pipe.
At the door was an arist specializing in body paint. A few guests decided to go topless, while one was painted entirely.
The crowd, was encouraged to be at home in Gaia, which is the Greek goddess personifying the Earth. Gaians were welcomed in by the call-and-response chant, (leader:) Gaians?!?! (crowd:) All love!
Interactive electromagnetic installation piece wows guests.

There were several instances of installment art. The stage featured Styrofoam balls on the wall with a projector casting eight different images in separate directions at once, a table using electromagnetic energy from one large crystal to another to change the color graphics on the screen beneath several smaller crystal marbles. And outside, in the alley, there was a computer linked to a wall projector asking guests, “What is Magic?” The answers appeared on the wall immediately! Almost like… well, magic. This was The Fridge’s unique way of getting people to sign up for their mailing list.
Throughout the night there were two hip-hop artists featured– the evening’s host and birthday boy, rapper Born I, and Hip-Hop/Jazz/Punk band The Cornel West Theory. The night ended with a more laid-back, co-ed, interracial  Funk/Soul band Ndigo Rose. They didn’t bring the mood down one bit as Gaians continued to dance to the music freely. It was definitely a party at The Fridge celebrating creativity.
