How did you get started, and how did you get to where you are today?

I’m an entrepreneur and all around girl boss. I style, design, create, and encourage. I’m originally from Jersey and ever since I was a little girl into my adult life I have always been into fashion and entertainment. I come from a family of very well known entertainers within the industry. I worked in corporate for 6 years and transitioned into the fashion world professionally in 2012. My fashion career started out as an intern/assistant for a well known and established celebrity fashion stylist out of NYC, who gave me an opportunity of a lifetime. Working her I got the chance to learn and build relationships with artistes like Sommore, Keyshia Cole, Lil’ Mo and that’s just to name a few. I took a small break due to my father’s illness and passing. However, I came back in 2014 with something to prove and started styling again.

I then began working for myself and working with artistes like Good Girl, Vincent model Lira Galore, and Sommore. After moving to Atlanta, GA, I was hired by Sommore to be her stylist for several projects that allowed me creative control for her stand up comedy specials aired on Showtime and TV One. I worked projects such as Love n Hip Hop ATL Reunion, Sisterhood of Hip Hop, and BET ComicView. Recently I had the opportunity to film for a new up and coming series titled ‘Moment of Impact’ airing on Amazon Prime TV, which focuses on people who have made a difference within their field and community. The show will be airing August. There’s so much I have and sometimes forget until my mom reminds me, lol.

Challenges and Obstacles

Has it been a smooth road? If not, what were some of your struggles along the way?

It hasn’t been an easy road because this field is not a concrete position or guaranteed. You have to have thick skin. I’ve worked with some people that made sometimes want to cry because of the arrogance and stress that comes along with it. My other struggles was leaving the industry and trying to jump back into after a year. Also moving to a new city and knowing that all of my business relationships are back up north. But I pulled through, remembered what I was taught and made it work.

Mo McKenzie Styles LLC is a company that includes All Things Fashion & Beauty. We provide style, fashion, positive inspiration, and beauty. I also specialize in masks and head wrap design. Ever since the pandemic I had to think of a way to be of service to the community and be fashionable at the same time.
