Raheem DeVaughn x Wes Felton as The CrossRhodes presents “The Great Debate” Mixtape
In 1970 Jazz poet Gil Scott-Heron declared, “The Revolution will not be televised” with an iconic piece by just that name. Ever since, lyricists and community leaders have referenced this line to remind the community that we’ll have to speak for ourselves. Soul singer Raheem DeVaughn and rapper Wes Felton have reunited to form the Hip-Hop duo The CrossRhodes to produce the soundtrack for the movement in surround sound.
The conscious Hip-Hop group made a name for themselves in the underground live music scene of the Nation’s Capital thanks to their lush neo-soul crooning and socially aware, relevant and no holds bar wordplay. Both artists are the sons of Jazz musicians and they seek to be a voice for the minority community affected by the current state of social unrest.
DeVaughn describes the project as “the soundtrack to the #BlackLivesMatter movement,” and was inspired by the Baltimore riots and eventual non-indictment of the police officers involved in the murder of Freddie Gray. Felton and DeVaughn intend to raise the consciousness of black Americans and encourage us to change frequencies to vibrate higher. In other words, The CrossRhodes was sent here to “deniggatize” you.
You can expect the full project in early 2017, but first, get into their 9-track mixtape “The Great Debate Vol. 1,” which includes the first three singles they’ve already released with teasers for what to expect on “Footprints on the Moon.”
