New Jersey’s own, Topaz Jones, is definitely an indie Rap/Hip-Hop artist to look out for. The 23-year-old rapper lists his musical influences as Prince, George Clinton, Outkast, and Rock/Wave Band New Order, however, Topaz Jones is known for being in his own lane, and not trying to mimic any other artist out there!

“I try to embrace the fact that genres are dissolving,” he told Entertainment Reporter Bobby Pen. “It’s really just about making good music. Primarily I would be considered a Hip-Hop artist, but I’m a person who doesn’t like to be boxed in.”

He stopped by Fader Fort 2018, lit up SXSW with 7 performances in 4 days, and of course, Bobby Pen had to catch up with him! Watch the fun interview and freestyle in the video below.

Topaz Jones recently dropped 2 new bangers, TOOTHACHE and ZOOM off his upcoming project A-SIDE/B-SIDE. This is the first new material he’s released since his 2016 album ARCADE. When Bobby Pen asked Topaz about the creative process for A-Side/B-Side vs ARCADE he said:

I wanted to create an album that had more intent and purpose behind it. So I felt this would be a good way to bridge the gap, between my last album ARCADE and the new stuff I’m working on. It allows me to showcase my full range as an artist and not just be somebody with one main idea. The A-side has more of the funk sound which people know me for, and the B- Side I experimented more.

Topaz Jones embodies individuality and diversity as an artist, from his personal style to his rap flow. He even hit a freestyle for TheBobbyPen.com and let’s just say he has BARZ! We can’t wait to hear the upcoming project. Follow @TopazJones on Instagram to stay updated on his new music and shows.
