Rappers like Diddy, Master P, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre and many others have paved the way for artists to not only own their intellectual property but to venture into other areas of business as well. From fashion to food, no stone has been unturned when it comes to diversifying a portfolio.

As Hip-Hop turns 40, the second generation of artists carries the torch as the “marathon continues.” Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s son is the latest rapper to invest into the adult beverage biz with a new drink inspired by his late father.

Young Dirty Bastard has invested $60,000 to bring to life Young Dirty Brew, a honey ale brewed in partnership with Cira Brewing.

I had the opportunity to exclusively interview Young Dirty Bastard first about his latest venture and the future of the second generation of WuTang.

Congratulations on your new beer. I think that’s super cool. There’s a lot of discussion about ownership right now right now and just taking back the things that we as a community use often but usually we don’t reap the benefits. Tell me why was it so important for you to come up with your own beer?

Well, because it was that time you know. Everybody else is getting nice and full-bellied. You know, Homer Simpson has been doing it for a long time. I said OK why don’t I come out with my own stuff centered around my people. Start a company around black people. They just need something out here. Me— I always see the Heineken and you know all that shit. It’s our time.

Absolutely. Now tell me how was the brewing process. I did some research and it looks like you were very hands-on.

Oh yeah I was getting it in I don’t know if you seen the commercial yet, but it’s not an easy job you know you got a watch it like oatmeal you know what I’m saying is like oats so that’s how it go.

What were some of the most surprising or shocking part of the process? Something that like you really didn’t expect?

The most surprising thing is actually just tasting it and it was real good I didn’t know it was gonna taste that good right now

It still has carbon right now and it also is at a medium and that’s where you want it you know what I’m saying you don’t want it to taste nasty like Guinness or something not saying Guinness is nasty but it’s like my grandpa shit. he like that shit

On the technical side what was surprising I didn’t know it was going to take that long to get it brewed really it was a few week processes like 2-3 weeks Actual brewing like we didn’t know it was gonna take that long

Wow, so who are you hoping to target with the honey ale?

Well, we plan on talking to people who already drink beer. When we actually came up with the idea we wanted to get a beer that women would actually buy. Like women don’t really buy a lot of beer you know outside or like you know they got that thot juice and stuff so we created a beer that men would drink because it’s still strong and has a beer taste yet it’s still light and has a pleasant taste that women would like. Like it doesn’t even taste like beer does. It taste good. But that’s where the honey comes in.

Perfect. So you already know what it is. If the ladies love it, it’s going to sell.

Exactly. Y’all are the biggest consumers.

Indeed. I see you launched a new music label: Young Determine Bankers.

I always been wanting to build my own bank. That’s where it really go from– it starts from. A young black man trying to do Wall Street and they not letting him in so I said OK let me just do my own thing you know and maybe one day these investors can come to my side you know what I’m saying and Start doing these investors how they been doing.

We are here too. We helped build this whole Wall Street. We helped build this whole America. Like come on you gotta understand that we represent our people in the same way they rep their people. I just wanted to be united as one. You know what I’m saying? We’re here.

Facts. So what can we expect music-wise? Have you signed any artists yet?

Well as far as artists you know I got thousands of artists cuz everybody wanna rap nowadays. Rapping is like eating a bowl of noodles. you know what I’m saying?  Yeah, I buy into it right now so let’s just get it. I got a lot of artists

Because there are so many artists I feel like they don’t always understand the process or the business of it they feel like: if I get enough followers, if I just get enough views I’ll be like the next big star  What would you say to artists who think like that?

Well, truth is if you get an of use and followers yeah you can be your own entity. But if you got a lot of followers people listening to you.  All you gotta do is put a song on and do your business about it. Right now I’m doing some politics that are kind of funky with a couple people and I got a fix that too. It’s definitely a lot of business that people don’t understand that it’s 90% business in this MF

I see you’re carrying the torch for your father; not only you but the other members of the Wu-Tang Clain, their sons are also getting into business and music. Talk to me about the second generation of Wu?

You know I’m still trying to figure that out to you know cause I have a family we always gonna come together and build for a greater cause. For the second generation. But I’m trying to understand is that a movement or album because that’s the confusing part right now.

Why do you have to choose?

because you know some people want to claim stuff that’s bigger than them what I’m saying. I thought it was a movement somebody want to call it an album I’m trying to figure shit out right now in all honesty.

Is there anything else you want to leave me with?

First of all, shout out to P Diddy you know what I’m saying we help put this song together with him my pops and Mariah Carey back then.

Yeah, he’s the reason why I am doing this shit. He has the Ciroc and all that so I’m following his breadcrumbs. Shout out to P Diddy that’s why we got the beer coming out now because we saw him do it

It’s big. Man, we follow our people and I want people to know this. we out there looking. We not out here because we dumb we soaking up energy we soaking it with P. Diddy pioneer

Man, that is so smart. It feels good to hear that I know Diddy is going to love reading that. Thank you for your time.
