On October 19th, multifaceted, American Music Award-Winning singer Donell Jones sat down with Bobby Pen to discuss his new album entitled 100% Free. In the engaging one-on-one Instagram Live, Donell Jones discussed his experience with peer pressure as a teen in Chicago, overcoming addictions in the face of fame, and how he managed to stay relevant all this time without releasing any new music in seven years.
The renowned R&B legend has made a name for himself with chart-topping hits including unforgettable classic ballads that are fan favorites like “Where I Wanna Be,” “You Know What’s Up” featuring TLC’s Left Eye, and “ Knocks Me Off My Feet”, just to name a few. He’s even traveled the world doing shows, like going on tour with Alicia Keys.

Donell Jones also discussed his career as a songwriter and music producer. He’s written songs like Usher’s “Think Of You” from his self-titled debut album. Donell Jones also penned “Get It Together,” “23” for Jacuqees, and his recent collaboration with singer Jon B on a song called “Understand.”
In this interview, Jones shares his shortcomings in becoming a man. Dealing with peer pressure, Jones started smoking and drinking at the tender age of 14. This habit followed him into his adult life and as he reached stardom. It wasn’t until 2009 when Donell Jones released a song entitled “Forever” that made him want to change his life around.
Donell Jones’ seventh studio album, “100% Free,” comes after a 7-year hiatus, and fans can expect a total of seven tracks with a trap, R&B, and fun feel. The Candy Man Music CEO created this album to encourage people to be 100% free from stress, self-sabotage, not trusting, and 100% free from everything we have been experiencing in this world that is not making us better as people.
