Today I present to you the DMV’s R&B diva IshAn Bilal.
Bilal’s musical influence was first nurtured by her parents. She recalls from her childhood, cleaning the house with her mother while Chaka Khan
Bilal says she has been writing and performing songs since she was six years old. Once her parents realized her passion, she began piano lessons at 10, and the rest is history.
She began performing in school talent shows, enrolled in Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts (Washington, DC) where she studied vocal performance in both Jazz and Opera. By 2009, she had linked up with the local “Black Alley Band” and they opened for Kanye West
Today, Bilal presents the promo video for her debut album BIG Red BOX set for a March 2011 release. The video was executively produced by Ms. Bilal herself, and directed by Thomas Mobley. Bilal says she is “determined to defeat the odds and ignore the negativity that surrounds her on [her] way to stardom.”
