“The Put On” Y1 x Lincoln’s Address [VIDEO]

Baltimore rapper Y1 graduates from rapping among his friends to seeking national attention. This desire for growth marks his transition from just another rapper to “FinallY Or1ginal.”
Y1 tells TheBobbyPen.com, “FinallY Or1ginal” is the first official project I’ve dropped. It means I’m finally not compared to another sound, because this music defines me as a person and an artist.”
The album art for this project illustrates Y1 breaking away from the pack and going against the grain. When asked why he chose this concept he said, “The graduation theme was inspired by the Beatles. From left to right, it’s the High School graduate, in the middle are the trades such as those in Culinary Arts and last is the College graduate. They all go in one direction while I take my own.”
With his single “Lincoln’s Address,” some may agree that he’s taking his own path in Hip-Hop. At a time when many of his rapper peers are simply making the mindless move, Y1 is looking to make listeners think a little deeper. Y1 says, “Lincoln’s Address came from me thinking of this game as a campaign. The beat resembled [Jay-Z‘s] “Dead Presidents” so I thought, ‘What if “Dead Presidents” had a 100 percent positive message. That message is what I am really here for.”
“I made the hook 16 bars for a reason; if u don’t remember anything else, you will remember ‘Watch how I set ’em free.’ If you don’t break yourself from the mediocrity of [your] life, how can you excel? That’s why I chose “Lincoln’s Address.” It wasn’t because of a movie or anything. Lincoln set slaves free. I want to set my people free, and my people are those trying to make it.”
