3 Tips to Help You Nail Outdoor Concert Fashion

Oh, summer! You are slowly making your exit, but I won’t let you slip away without one last outdoor concert. With three already under my belt (The Pinkprint Tour, 10th Annual Summer Spirit Festival and J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive Tour) there is one last festival to attend as the summer officially closes, and i can’t wait: Jay-Z and Budweiser’s Made In America!

I’ve come to realize that although you’ll run into the club scene folk from around the way, nightclub attire is not appropriate dress for outdoor concerts. It’s probably even more of a no-no if you plan on saving your coins by opting to party in the lawn section.

My level of concern doesn’t come out of the blue. Rather, I’ve identified a need and I’d like to provide a potential solution. I saw many people at outdoor concerts this summer in the highest of heels as I just thought to myself, “That couldn’t be me.”

Ladies, leave the heels and ‘get at me’ dresses at home. Outdoor concerts are the perfect time to pull out your hippie dresses or rock your favorite sporty chic looks. Keep it simple and dust off your comfy sneakers, throw on your leggings and sip your overpriced Lime-A-Rita or craft beer in the lawn.

Oh wait! You’re concerned that you won’t get the attention you seek from potential suitors or admirers? There’s a fine line between sexy and doing too much, and we can all see through it. Don’t be that girl. Consider these tips to be cute and stand out without doing “too much.”

If you’re not afraid of the millions of mosquitoes that will potentially suck the life right out of you, and when it’s way too hot for layering, one to two articles of clothing will do the trick.

Consider finding a cute flowy dress that plays the line of “This could be appropriate for church” and “I’d wear this to a cookout.” That way you’re ensuring that you’ve picked a piece that can be worn multiple ways with little to no effort.

The most appropriate footwear for this look is first a gladiator sandal, but depending on how hot it is and whether or not you want to deal with leather or faux leather squeezing your calfs for four-plus hours, you can also opt for a cute t-strap sandal.

Into accessories? Perfect! I would suggest a flower crown, but if you’re over that phase in your life, a top hat (extreme like Pharrell or simple like Beyoncé) can go a long way in protecting you from the extremes of the sun.

number 2

For those of you like me who want to find that sweet spot of neither too over nor under-dressed, this style will work best for you.

At this summer’s hottest concerts, I explored my inner sneaker connoisseur and rocked my Nike Roshe on two occasions and a new pair of Adidas ZX Flux at the other. Each pair added its own special touch.

A bodycon dress, crop top and high-waist shorts, leotard and bodycon skirt all worked to help me play the line of summer time fine and practical fun. What’s best, as simple as the outfits are, they allowed me just enough freedom to add my personal flair. Whether my big natural hair made a statement, or I opted to tie a shirt around my waist or pop on a couple of flash tattoos, I had fun personalizing the looks. If you still don’t feel comfortable in these trendy style suggestions, toss on a pair boyfriend jeans and a loose fitting top. That look will work just as well.

You probably haven’t gone for this trend since your parent’s picked out your clothes, but two-piece matching sets are your new best friend. Adidas has caught my eye with their uber cute _____ collection. I’m pretty low maintenance, so if you are too a matching skirt and top set will suit you just fine.

If still not quite convinced that you’re a two-piece kind of girl, check out fun one-piece jumpers (preferably with a low backline) to help you get your feet wet.

Don’t forget to get your selfie game up or ask that cute guy on the lawn next to you to take a pic of you and friends looking cute for the ‘gram. I will definitely share my outfit deets for the two-day Made in America festival in Philly this Labor Day weekend.

Keep in mind that when you attend outdoor concerts the goal is to be cute and comfy, so it’s okay to loosen up. Leave the skin tight dress and 6″ pumps in your closet for another occasion. You’ll have time to freshen up and change before the after party. I promise. 😉
