DIY Makeup Brush Cleaner
Save your coins for more makeup by creating your own makeup brush cleaner with this life hack
Admit it, we fail to remember the importance of a clean makeup brush sometimes. Not only can it be a tedious task but, the price of a good makeup brush cleanser can be costly. This beauty hack will not only keep your makeup brushes looking flawless, but will also save on your pockets greatly.
You will need:
Two bowls
A plate
2/3 cup of Olive Oil
1/3 cup of dish-washing detergent
A sink
A washcloth
Paper towels
A large mug/cup
That’s right, it’s stuff you already have in your home #Winning. The olive oil keep the bristles hydrated and the dish-washing detergent has those cleansing and anti-bacterial properties you need. Follow my steps below to squeaky clean makeup brushes.
Step 1:
Mix the olive oil and dish-washing detergent together in the bowl. I like using Bertolli Extra Light Olive Oil (it’s not as heavy as EVOO, or extra virgin olive oil) and Dawn Platinum Dish-Washing Detergent (this stuff can lift baked in grease, easy decision).
Step 2:
After you mixed the two ingredients, pour a quarter sized amount on a plate. Grab your first brush and work it into the mixture on the plate.
Pro Tip:
If your brushes are really built up with makeup, then you can pour a little into a bowl and saturate your brushes that way for a deeper clean.
Step 3:
If using a sink, use the stopper and place the wash cloth at the bottom of the sink or bowl. Fill your sink or a bowl, with warm water and begin cleaning your brush.
Pro Tip:
Use the washcloth as a scrubber against the brush. This will help work out the makeup in the brushes.
Step 4:
Repeat until all brushes are throroughly clean.
Pro Tip:
To ensure your brushes are clean, I suggest three to five good washes depending on how much makeup is built up in the brush.
Step 5:
Grab a paper towel and dry them off.
Step 6:
Get your large mug or cup and line it with paper towel and place the brush handle up to allow them to dry overnight.
Pro tip:
Do not over stuff the mug/ cup. Leave enough room in the mug, so the brush can dry evenly.
If you have any addition cleanser left store it in a pourable, yet sealable container. This beauty hack is amazing and will literally save you tons of money. After your brushes dry, a few may need to be reshaped. This a natural part of the brush cleansing process.
Let’s remember the foundation for a great makeup application is healthy, well behaved skin. Let’s not introduce any bacteria on our faces because we decided to not to clean our makeup brushes. If you wear a full face pretty much everyday, I suggest using this DIY makeup brush cleanser once a week. If you use your brushes on other people, you must clean them after every use. No exceptions. Now go out there and let’s begin cleaning our brushes. Be priceless!
