Studies show only four in 10 curly girls like their hair, so Dove has set out to dispel those feelings. In a new almost 3-minute long commercial, Dove talks to young girls ranging both in age and race, about their natural kinks, coils, curls, and waves.
Half of the video is of girls age 5 – 11 sharing their disdain for their natural hair texture preferring straighter looks. The second half sends the girls to a surprise party of older women who look just like them singing and praising their similarly curled hair.
Watching the emotional responses of the young girls will touch you in a special place. You can’t ignore the strong triumphant tone of the piece and the final declaration of the song and commercial, “I’m perfect this way.”
