DTLR x BET 2012 Hip Hop Awards Style Lounge Recap

BET brought out Washington DC’s flyest for an evening of fashion, style and beauty. The Rhode Island Avenue Downtown Locker Room was transformed into a swanky lounge where guests were invited to receive massages, manicures, Cîroc martinis, gourmet munchies and haircuts from top industry professionals like Aveda and barber B. White.

Celebrity stylist Olori Swank.

Host, DJ Quicksilva of WKYS, played hype man to encourage the crowd to party to contemporary hip-hop and direct attention to the two main attractions– the flat screen TVs placed throughout the store showing previews of the Hip-Hop Awards’ cyphers and celebrity stylist Olori Swank. Swank is responsible for styling artists like Childish Gambino, RL, Tyrese and Dawn Richards of Diddy’s Dirty Money.

Swank styled six looks total for the event. Three casual and three street. Swank also have advice to aspiring stylists telling them I be willing to intern and do work for free to build credibility.

There were giveaways, the first of which blessed the winner with a free $250 DTLR gift card for posting the 12th picture of the event on Instagram at the decided time.
Overall it was a lovely event and has me excited to watch the 2012 BET Hip-Hop Awards tonight at 8pm.
